Happy World Oceans Day! To mark the event this year we have once again teamed up with Guy’s Trust for their Global Garbage Grab event. Beach cleans are being held around in world, including Singapore, Tasmania, Cyprus, California, Indonesia and Nepal, to celebrate World Oceans Day.
This year we decided to clean up an area of beach close to St Mary’s Lighthouse; just like last year we were amazed by the amount of rubbish we managed to collect! From small pieces of plastic and polystyrene to monofilament fishing line and old duvets, we collected it all and did our bit to keep the coastline clean!
After all the hard work of collecting lobster pots, old rope and tyres we rewarded our garbage grabbers with a well deserved BBQ and cake! Luckily for us the sun also rewarded our efforts and even the sun cream had to be passed around!
With a donation box at the event we managed to raise £101.40 for Guy’s Trust. Since 2012 Guy’s Trust have done amazing work all over the globe creating opportunities for young people. Schools have been built in Nepal and Cambodia, a reef restoration internship has been conducted in the Maldives and the Manta Watch internship program has been set up in Indonesia.
As always we are proud to be apart of the Guy’s Trust fundraising events and to remember a very dear friend who was a part of the Deep Blue Pirates. He is forever in our hearts and brings a smile to our face each day.
